Police Training Courses and Units

Objectives of Police Training

To impart basic training to the new entrants from the level of Police Constable to the level of Assistant Superintendents of Police. The strategy of training has been recently re-engineered to impart professional skills ethics and morals of the highest standard, it also tries to inculcate a spirit of service to the community. The methodology of training includes Group discussion, Role Play, Presentation, Quiz and various types of Competitions and interactive processes in addition to conventional methods of training. The curriculum is giving sufficient opportunity for sharing of experience and building up of camaraderie both in formal and informal atmosphere. All the participants are being given training in Yoga and Meditation as an exercise for stress management. Adequate emphasis is also being laid in sensitizing the trainees on correct attitude and behavioural responses to render better service to the public.

Karnataka Police Academy, Mysore 

Karnataka Police Academy is headed by the Director of the rank of the Inspector General of Police and is assisted by Dy.Director of the rank of Superintendent of Police. The Objective of the academy is to impart basic training to the new entrants at the level of Sub-Inspectors of Police and Deputy Superintendents of Police.  The academy imparts three weeks Post-Institutional Training to IPS probationers of Karnataka Cadre, other than the above KPA also conducts refresher and capsule courses for In-service police officers, Excise, Motor Transport, Fire Force, Prisons & basic police training to other states/countries.

Police training collage Gulbarga 

The Police Training College, Gulbarga was inaugurated in 2003. This institution aims to train police officers of the rank of PSIs and below. This training institute has adequate infrastructure facilities. Objectives of PTC is to impart basic training to the new entrants at the level of Sub-inspector of Police and Constables of Police of Civil, Armed reserve and other special units.  To conduct refresher and capsule course for in-service Police officers to update their professional Knowledge and skills. To create a pool of Police Trainers for the state of Karnataka. The College strives to impart professional skills ethics and morals of the highest standard, it also tries to inculcate a spirit of service to the community in the training.

Types of training imparted in the training institute.
1. Basic Training Course for PCs (9 months) & PSIs (12 months) and Re-Orientation Courses for in service personnel.
2. Refresher course for in-service police personnel.
3. Stress management.
4. Gender sensitization & people-friendly police work shop.

 

Karnataka State Police Training School

Karnataka State Police Training School at Channapatna was established in the year 1965 to impart training to the civil Police Constables. This training School works under the administrative control of the Superintendents of Police but the academic control rests with the training command.

PTS, Khanapura

Armed Police Training School, Yelahanka, Bengaluru
The Armed Police Constables of the District Armed Reserves of the various districts as well as the City Armed Reserve are given the initial basic training in this training school. It is under the charge of a Principal of the rank of Superintendent of Police (non-IPS)

 

Police Driving and Maintenance School

The Police Driving and Maintenance School has been sanctioned at Bangalore to provide adequate and proper training in driving and maintenance of motor vehicles to the drivers of the Police Department and a course on fleet management for the officers who are required to supervise the maintenance and management of the vehicles. A Superintendent of Police (Armed) is in charge of the school as Principal. He is provided with the required number of inspectors as Junior Instructors and other supervisory staff. Vehicles required for training are also provided in adequate numbers.

Traffic Training & Road Safety Institute.

Traffic Training Institute was started in the year 1975 with the objective of training, not only Police officers of all ranks but also other Government and private people. There are a number of long term and short term courses designed specifically for Police officers and men. They are given intensive training about investigation of accidents and laws pertaining to enforcement through audio visual mode.
Institute also provides its expertise in sensitizing KSRTC, BMTC drivers, Fire force personnel, Drivers of public and private sectors, Home guards, Traffic wardens as well as school and college students.
